Euro Banknote Design Exhibition Frankfurt, 2003-09-17 (ECB)
The euro banknotes are now part of the daily lives of 305 million European citizens, and are becoming increasingly popular worldwide. But only ECB insiders know what the banknotes might have looked like if a different design had been selected.
The euro banknote designs were chosen in 1996. Now, seven years on, the European Central Bank in Frankfurt has decided to exhibit for the first time all 44 design proposals. Descriptions of each individual design, including the final design, and brief CVs of the designers will provide a comprehensive insight into the euro banknote design competition. These design proposals will also be on show at similar exhibitions hosted by the EU national central banks. After the official opening at the ECB on 17 September, the exhibition will be open to the public at the Deutsche Bundesbank's Geldmuseum from 8 October 2003 to 10 January 2004.
The exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue of all 44 design proposals, which can be purchased (initially in English only) from the Euro Information Centre & Bookshop (e-mail) or the Geldmuseum of the Deutsche Bundesbank (price: EUR 18.50 plus postage). This catalogue will subsequently appear in the other official Community languages as the exhibition tours the various NCBs (see below for further dates).
Further dates of the design exhibition so far confirmed:
[EuroTracer's Comment: The European Commission held earlier this year in Brussels the «Euro Coins Genesis» exhibition of the various design proposals submitted for the European side of the euro coins. These proposals, which were provided by the authorities involved in the national selection process, are also part of the ECB's banknote design exhibition.] Original Source |
